A Visitation will be held from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM on Friday, August 2 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, St. Elmo, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia 31907. Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, August 2, 2024, at Andersonville National Cemetery, with Dr. (Rev.) Jimmy Elder Presiding. Dorothy has been a member of First Baptist Church for over 35 years. Friends are invited to join the family at Andersonville.
Mrs. Duggins retired from the Department of Defense with over 30 years of service. She had a long and illustrious career in journalism. She traveled the world and after retirement, she worked with Striffler-Hamby Mortuary.
Mrs. Duggins was born July 19, 1935 in Norfolk, Virginia, daughter of the late Dora Levy S. Ellington and Morris King Ellington. She was the widow of William A. Coley, Sr., and Samuel G. Duggins. Daughter Dorothea Levy Coley, sisters Esther Seery, Etta Ellis, Sarah Quimby, brother Ralph Seery, beloved nieces Dorothy Hamrick and Mary Elizabeth Orse, and companion and friend, Donald Lee Baker, preceded Dorothy in death.
Dorothy is now joined in heavenly rest with her family. Survivors include daughters, Dolores M. Centric (James) Phenix City, AL, Cheryl Ann Harmon (David) Columbus, GA, son Samuel W. Duggins (Aura Lee) Fuquay Varina, NC, and four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
