

Dorothy McNeel Young of Columbus, Georgia passed away Sunday surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, William Hall Young III of Columbus, Georgia. Her brothers, Morgan Louis McNeel and Harry Hodgson McNeel; and is survived by her daughter Charleton Young Kennon (Warner), son William Hall Young IV (Kathy) and her daughter Laura Young Edwards and her four grandchildren, Mary Woodson Felker (Stephen), Warner Lewis Kennon, Dorothy McNeel Young Kennon and Mary Hall Edwards and; great grandchildren, Mary Florence and George Felker.
We are forever grateful for the caregivers who supported her and us all during this time, especially Dianne Bogan, Vanalla Bogan and Pearlie Thomas.
Dorothy was educated in the Marietta Georgia School System, attended finishing school at Sullins College for Girls in Virginia and went on to attend the University of Georgia. While at UGA she pledged Kappa Kappa Gamma and enjoyed many years of hosting The Kappa Christmas party. Before settling in Columbus, she and Billy enjoyed brief stints in Quantico, Virginia, Jacksonville, Florida and Athens, Georgia. Dorothy loved her life in Columbus and she engaged in many community service projects. A few of her favorites were The Girls Club of Columbus, The Girl Scouts, The Jr. League Follies and Attic Sale. Her favorite Board and Committee positions includes Camp Juliette Low, Westville, Sulgrave Manor for the National Society of Colonial Dames of America, Lawyers Auxillary, Anne Elizabeth Shepard Home Auctioneer, and PAWS Humane of Columbus.
She enjoyed Tennis, Winning on the Bridge Table and she was an avid Master Gardener and had some variety of special flower blooming in her yard all twelve months of the year. Her world revolved around her beloved Trinity Episcopal Church and she dedicated her life to rearing her three children and spending time with her friends, grandchildren and granddogs. Her bold humor, infectious laughter, ability to put people at ease and kindness will remain in the hearts for all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 1146 Columbus, Ga 31902 and PAWS Humane Society, P.O. Box 8964 Columbus, GA 31908 or any charity of your choice. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at 2:00 PM with Father Timothy H. Graham officiating. Family will visit with friends after the service in the fellowship hall.
