Joe was ushered by our Heavenly Father to join Him in His Eternal Kingdom on Monday, March 4, 2019.
Joseph P. Liss, M.D. age 81, resident of Columbus, GA, passed away (March 4, 2019) at his home after a prolonged illness. He was a graduate of Merrimack College, North Andover, MA, Magna Cum Laude in 1958; received his Doctorate of Medicine in 1962 from New York Medical College, NY; board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease; retired after 38 years of practice with 20 of those years in academic life; Assistant Professor of Medicine, Georgetown University Hospital, Washington D.C.; Internship and residency in Internal Medicine at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center; Hartford, CT and the Boston Veterans Hospital in Brookline, MA; Assistant Cardiologist, Dept. of Medicine, St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center. Director of Cardiac Rehabilitation in Exercise Physiology Laboratory; Medical Director, DuPont West Health Center, Washington D.C.; Contracted Physician, Federal Bureau of Investigations, Washington D.C.; Medical Director of the Outpatient Clinic for the indigent, Midtown Medical Center, Columbus, GA; Clinical Associate Professor, affiliate facility Department of Clinical Pharmacology Auburn University, Auburn, AL. Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease; a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the American College of Sports Medicine. He was grateful and gratified by his many mentors throughout his career.
He was Catholic by faith, an acolyte, lector, daily communicate, a catechist, a member of The Knights of Columbus and a published poet.
Joe is survived by his wife, Deborah; five children, Eileen Liss, Suzanne Liss, Rosemarie (Bill) Sughrue, Brian (Christine) Liss, Victoria MacArthur, and a step daughter, Jennifer (John) Reaves; 12 grandchildren, Julia, Declan, Kiera, and Elena Sughrue; Brian and Owen Liss; Patrick, Brady and Molly Liss; Erin and Joseph Reaves; Holly (Andrew) Wirth; and four great grandchildren, Wyatt, Owen, Gavin and Hali’Anna Wirth; brother, Ronald Sr. (Barbara) Liss; sister, Judy Liss Riley, and many nieces and nephews. Joe is predeceased by his parents, sister Joanne and son Joseph III.
My husband requests that you remember him and the Holy Souls in Purgatory in your daily prayers, masses, reception of the Holy Eucharist, your daily Rosary and the hours you spend before the Blessed Sacrament.
