For more than 20 plus years, Edward worked for Bill Heard Chevrolet as a mechanic on heavy duty vehicles. Known within his family as the official family mechanic, he brought the same dependable care to those closest to him—always ready to help, always willing to put his hands and heart to work.
Edward found great joy in the pursuits that made life rich and familiar. He loved racing his pigeons and attended every American racing pigeon convention when possible. His dedication was rewarded when he won 1st place twice in the pigeon racing competition in Atlanta Georgia. He also loved to do carpentry work, and in quieter moments could often be found enjoying western tv shows. A fan of the Atlanta Braves and a devoted follower of NASCAR, he appreciated both tradition and competition. And to those who knew him best, Edward’s fondness for Reese cups was one more small, cherished detail that brought a smile.
Edward is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carole Putnam Berdeaux; children, Stephen Putnam, William Putnam (Laura), and Pamela Damren(Jr.); along with five grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He loved his grandchildren, and that love will remain a lasting part of his family’s story.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and McAdoo Berdeaux, and brother James Ferrell Berdeaux.
Visitation will be held at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA 31907, on July 31, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
A Committal Service will be held at Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Rd, Columbus, GA 31907, on August 1, 2026, from 11:00 am to 11:30 am.
