Elaine B. Abrahamson, age 83, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2023. A Celebration of Elaine's Life will be held Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Mark United Methodist Church, 6795 Whitesville Rd., Columbus, Georgia 31904.
Elaine was born on May 18, 1940 in Meriwether County, GA the daughter of Hugh G. Bryant and Georgia L. Bryant. Elaine graduated from Manchester High School in Manchester, GA in 1958 and received more education through a Piedmont Nursing Program in Atlanta and through the Medical Center, Columbus, GA as an X-ray Technician. Elaine married William Gene Abrahamson of Roberts, Montana on August 12, 1961 at the Manchester 1st Methodist Church. Elaine lived life; she did not wait for it to come to her. Elaine loved learning, books, people, trivia, traveling, Auburn Football, camping, and God. She believed in serving others, she served and volunteered throughout her life, volunteering numerous years at Callaway Gardens, and enjoyed teaching others. Elaine was a faithful member of St. Mark United Methodist Church and a member of the New Song Sunday School Class. Elaine loved to travel, she traveled to many destinations worldwide, she loved cruising, after her marriage, and she was able to spend her summers in Montana where Bill was from. Elaine was a member of The Columbus Academy for Lifelong Learning, the Order of the Tartan, the Ellwood Moyer Dinner Club, the Muscogee Retired Educators Association, and a founding member of the Sunny Peaches RV Club. Elaine was competitive; she enjoyed trivia and playing cards. She was a friend to many, not just as a title but someone that was truly there for you, she was caring and kind. She always had time to support her children in their various activities. However, what Elaine loved most of all was her family; she loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and she cherished those relationships.
Elaine is preceded in death by: her parents,; her brother, Russell Mathuss, son-in-law, LTC (Ret) Robert G. Key; and her mother-in-law, Sara Abrahamson.
Survivors include: her husband, William “Bill” G. Abrahamson; daughter, Donna Key (Kevin Orwick); son, William “Bill” G. Abrahamson, Jr.; Sister-in-law Greta (Bob) Christner; grandson, Robert G. (Darrian) Key III; granddaughter, Kaitlin Sara (Alex) Hinshaw; great granddaughter, Isabella Key.
