
Elizabeth Illges Hurt Starbuck, age 88, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on February 26, 2011. Funeral services will be held in the Illges Chapel at St. Paul United Methodist Church on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at 11:00 AM with burial to follow at Linwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd., Columbus on Monday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM.
Mrs. Starbuck was born June 21, 1922 in Atlanta, GA the daughter of Dr. John S. Hurt and Mary Illges Hurt. She moved to Columbus in 1949 and was active in the Junior League of Columbus, the Concharty Council of Girl Scouts, Colonial Dames, Columbus Town Committee and a local Garden Club. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and the Columbus Country Club. Mrs. Starbuck was preceded in death by her brother, John A. Hurt, her sisters, Mary Hurt Williams and Martha Hurt Heinz.
Survivors include her children, John E. Starbuck of Columbus, GA, Illges Starbuck Faron of Baton Rouge, LA, Elizabeth Starbuck Booher of McLean, VA and Margaret Starbuck Fox of Hurst, TX; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Columbus Hospice and Spring Harbor for their loving care and support to Mrs. Starbuck and especially to Ms. Leola Upshaw for being such a faithful companion.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to the Mary Illges Hurt Scholarship Fund at the Candler School of Theology, Emory University, 1762 Clifton Rd. NE, Atlanta, GA 30322.
