.Elizabeth Walters, of Opelika, AL, formerly of Columbus, GA, passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2016. She was 93. A graveside service will be held at Fort Benning Cemetery on Friday, June 17, 2016 at 10:00 AM EDT. Dr. Chris Duncan, Trinity Presbyterian Church, Opelika, AL, will officiate.
Mrs. Walters was born October 28, 1922, in Chattanooga, TN, the daughter of Robert W. Thatcher and Sara March Thatcher. In 1941, she married Warren Earl Walters, an Army Officer, and accompanied him throughout his career. During that time, she provided strength and stability to her family, making each new location into a home. Memories of her care for her loved ones will be remembered and cherished always. Mrs. Walters is survived by her daughter, Sara Walters Ingram, Opelika, AL, her son, Captain, USN, Ret. Clyde “Bucky” Walters (Susan), Memphis, TN, grandchildren, Dugg Ingram (Karen), Ann Ingram Carroll (Andy), David Walters (Peggy), and Laurie Walters Knox (Chad). Her surviving great grandchildren are Ben, Ellie, and Emma Grace Ingram, William, Charlotte, and Catherine Carroll, Paxton and Deklen Walters, and Thatcher, Katherine, and Addison Knox.
The family would like to extend a gracious thanks to the staff and caregivers from Home Instead, and the staff and caregivers of Hospice Advantage of East Alabama. Their attention to detail and the love they extended gave much comfort.
