She was born in Columbus, GA, on June 15, 1944, to the late Hassell and Eunice House. Ellen graduated from Central High School and received an Associates Degree from CVCC. She was married to the late Douglas Randolph Hovey Sr. "Randy" on January 19, 1985.
Ellen retired from a career as a Monitor Tech for St. Francis Hospital. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, and had a passion for family, quilting/sewing, embroidery and reading.
She is survived by her children Donnie Capes, Jeffery Capes, Nathan Capes (Jana), Veronica "Roni" Jernigan (Louis), Randy Hovey Jr. (Sandy), Chris Capes (Angie), Christy Hammett, and daughter-in-law Karin Hernandez.
Her grandchildren Robby Foster, Elizabeth Vann, Jonathan Clayton Forbes, James Michael Capes, Heather Hammett, Myranda Tyler (CJ), Amanda Hovey, JoJanna Lanae Capes, Madison Capes, Paige Welsh (Brandon), Kayla Capes, Jada Lynn Capes, Gonzalo Gonzalez "Luke", and Lilly Capes.
Her great grandchildren Ava Vann, Eden Grace Vann, Hosanna Vann, Kayden Murray, Cooper Murray, Walker Cash Hammett, Gracie-Ann Nicole Walton, Olivia Kate Smith, Jayden Randolph Hovey, and Julian Nicholas Hovey-Johnson.
Funeral arrangements for Ellen are as follows: Visitation at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, on Macon Rd, Columbus, GA,. 1:00 PM EST on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, followed by graveside service at 2:00 PM in Parkhill Cemetery.
