

Elner Ruth Greene, 88, of Phenix City, Alabama passed away on Monday, May 19, 2025. A Celebration of Life Graveside will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025, at 2:00 Pm at Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia 31907.
Elner was born on September 15, 1936, to Lonie and Leroy Johnson in Plant City, Florida. She got married to her husband, Perry Lee Greene Jr. in Columbus, Georgia and was married for 46 long happy years. She was a mill worker for Swift Mills and also a housewife caring for her home and family. A follower of Christ, she attended including Calvary Tabernacle Assembly of God in Smiths, Alabama and Benning Park Assembly of God in Columbus, Georgia which was her longest attendance. Every Saturday night that she was there included a church singing.
An outdoorsy soul, she enjoyed fishing and finding a small fishing hole to use her cane pole in. After catching crappy, she would gather them up and have a fish fry where her family would all get together and Uncle Harlan would play guitar. She was a good cook and enjoyed teaching people how to cook. Her specialty was chicken and dumpling and fried chicken.
She loved her family and wanted nothing more than for them to be happy. A proud grandmother, she enjoyed watching her grandchildren play and spending time with them. She was there at the hospital for each of their births. She lived to be with them and would love to be remembered for the love she had for them.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Perry Lee Greene Jr.; her daughter, Parrie Gail Kennedy; her son, James Lee Greene; her sisters, Betty Tucker and Bobbie Glover; and her brother, James H. Johnson.
Survivors include her granddaughters, Jessica Thornton (Michael), Jamie Greene and Alexis Greene; her grandsons, Shaun Kennedy (Dana) and Christopher Kennedy; 10 great grandchildren; her sister, Peggy Scott; and several nieces and nephews.
