Midland, GA- Ernestine Lloyd Banks of Midland, Georgia died on June 15, 2014 at Gentiva Hospice in Columbus, Georgia at the age of 93. A funeral service will be held at Striffler-Hamby 4071 Macon Road Columbus, Georgia at 1:00 pm EDT on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 with Reverend Kathi Parchem and Rev. Stephen Brinkman officiating. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm EDT (2:00 pm CDT) at the Hurtsboro Cemetery in Hurtsboro, Alabama. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm EDT at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary on Tuesday, June 17, 2014.
Ernestine Banks was born in Hurtsboro, Alabama on September 7, 1920. Her parents were the late Ernest Perry Lloyd and Nell Walker Lloyd. Ernestine was a faithful wife, mother, and a sacrificial Christian servant in three churches where she was a member. As a member of Hurtsboro United Methodist Church she served as a Sunday school teacher, pianist, and choir director. She was also a member of First United Methodist Church of Gastonia, North Carolina, and Edgewood Presbyterian Church in Columbus, Georgia. She served as a literacy volunteer while living in Gastonia, NC.
Ernestine was preceded in death by her parents, her late husband, Henry J. Banks, Jr., and three brothers, Clement, William, and Howard Lloyd. Survivors include her daughter, Patricia L. Banks of Midland, GA and her son, Henry J. Banks, III of Columbus, GA. She has four grandchildren, William Henry Banks of Swannanoa, NC, John Michael Banks of New York City, NY, Jennifer Amos Osburg of Tarentum, PA, and Amelia Amos Phillips of Ellerslie, GA. She was blessed with six loving great-grandchildren, Katherine Nell Fuller (17), Ethan David Banks (15), Lindsey Jean Banks (14), Clara Elisabeth Osburg (14), Mary Ellen Osburg (6), and Eli Jasper Banks (4).
The family wishes to thank all of those who ministered to our beloved mother over the last several years to include the caregivers from Comfort Keepers, the staff at Franciscan Woods Assisted Living, the doctors and nurses at St. Francis Hospital, as well as many others over the years and finally, the compassionate staff members at Gentiva Hospice. We are deeply grateful for all of the care and support given to Ernestine and to our family, and we appreciate all the love we have been shown.
