CREED, Esther Maura (Harrington) 91 of Columbus, June 20, 2018. Beloved wife of the late Sergeant First Class Bernard James Creed (KIA, Vietnam, 17NOV65). Loving mother of Brian M., of Columbus, COL (ret) Barry P. and wife Mayra R. of Newport News, Virginia, James F. and wife Danita of Cataula, Bernard H. of Columbus, Laureen Anne and husband Charles Craven of Tamassee, SC, Alison Mainor of Columbus. Dear sister of the late Frances Parker, and her late brothers Daniel J., John F., James F., Michael B., Franklin J., Neil J and Lawrence B. She is also survived by seven loving grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Esther was born in Somerville, MA on April 24,1927 and resided at many military installations throughout the country years before settling down in Columbus. She is a 1978 graduate of Columbus State University (Bachelors) and a 1980 graduate of Troy University (Masters).
A Roman Catholic Mass and service to celebrate her life will be held at St. Anne Catholic Church, Columbus, on Saturday, June 23, at 10:00am, with a visitation prior on Friday, June 22 from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Striffler-Hamby. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Final interment is at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Esther served in the Woman’s Army Corps during the Korean War and was honorably discharged with the grade of Private First Class. She enjoyed lifelong interests in music, art and reading and watching her beloved football team, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The world has lost a passionate champion of selflessness and a staunch supporter of democracy.
