Evelyn Annie Lou Stewart

September 19, 1912- October 26, 2016

Columbus, Georgia- Mrs. Evelyn Annie Lou Stewart, 104, of Columbus, Georgia passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Morningside Assisted Living.

A funeral service will be held 3:00 P.M. Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the Edgewood Hall of Striffler – Hamby, 4071 Macon Road with interment to follow in Parkhill Cemetery. Reverend Mike Reeves will officiate. The family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. until service time on Saturday.

Mrs. Stewart was born September 19, 1912 in Newville, Alabama, daughter of the late Hettie M. Bowen Hawkins and the late Mack Hawkins. She was a very devoted member of 2nd Baptist Church for over 60 years, teaching a Sunday School class for almost 50 years. She loved her church family, and she loved her Lord.

Mrs. Stewart was a loving mother, and grandmother. She was always there for her family. Gardening and quilting were things she enjoyed, and also cooking for her family and friends.

Mrs. Stewart was predeceased in death by her husband, Gordon A. Stewart, Sr., daughter, Louise S. Gibson, two sisters, Lois Hawkins and Ruby Mayhand, one brother, Hurbert Hawkins.

Survivors include her two sons, Gordon A. Stewart, Jr. (Arden) of McDonough, GA and William T. Stewart(Cathy) of Midland, GA; son-in-law, Roy T. Gibson of Hapeville, GA; eight grandchildren, Amanda Stewart, Russell Stewart, Kirk Stewart(Julie), Blake Stewart, Paula Harris(Steve), Pattie Gibson, Julie Coggins(Eddie), and Jeanne Frost; nine great-grandchildren, ten great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Morningside Assisted Living for all the love and care shown our mother during the time she lived there.

Special appreciation to Sylvia Hall and Rose Clay for their dedication and love in caring for her. Also to Gentiva Hospice for all the care given to her, and support given to the family.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorial donations be made to the Second Baptist Church, Building Fund, 2800 Second Avenue, Columbus, Georgia 31904
