Frederick Richard Korzan died Monday, July 18, 2022 at age 88. He is survived by his wife Barbara, daughter Anna Ruth (Tim), daughter-in-law Carol Korzan, grandchildren Ricky Korzan, Tiffanie Lamb (Matthew), and Bethanie Simpson; great grandchildren Liam Grayson Lamb and Ronan Joseph Lamb and nieces and nephews including a special nephew, Michael Kozan.
Fred was born on April 3, 1934 in Ansonia, Connecticut. He was preceded in death by his mother Anna Bielak Korzan and his father Michael Korzan, brothers John, Stanley Eugene, Edward and Joseph, sisters Estelle Hay, Stephanie Restagno and Joan Jaskilka, and his two sons, Frederick Richard, Jr. (Buddy) and Thomas Olaf.
Fred Graduated at age 16 from Pine High School, and entered the United States Marines at age 17. He was stationed at Key West, Florida, where he was the guard for President Harry S. Truman’s Little Whitehouse. He was discharged from the Marines after three years as the Korean War was ending. He continued to serve for five more years in the Reserves. After his service, he attended Florida State University where he met his best friend and future wife, Barbara Krogland. They both graduated in 1959 and were married at Trinity Episcopal Church in Columbus, Georgia on November 27, 1959. Fred taught middle school in Panama City, Florida until 1961 when they returned to Columbus, Georgia where he taught History and Economics at Baker High School and later Carver High School, when Baker closed. He was an active member at Trinity Episcopal Church, an usher, and a member of The Brotherhood of St. Andrew.
Fred and Barbara were blessed with three children, Frederick Richard Junior in 1962, Thomas Olaf in 1963, and Anna Ruth in 1969.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 22, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1130 First Ave. Columbus, GA. with Father Timothy H. Graham officiating according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, GA. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until service time at the church. Interment to follow in Riverdale Cemetery.
