Mrs. Frieda Parker Jarrett, 95, died Thursday, July 7, 2022 at Harborview Health Systems in Thomaston. She was the wife of the late William Devereaux (W.D.) Jarrett, Sr., to whom she was married for 73 years. Mrs. Jarrett, born November 26, 1926 in Fort Benning, was the daughter of the late George Thomas Parker and Georgia Bowen Parker. She was a longtime resident of Columbus.
Mrs. Jarrett was a 1943 graduate of Phillips High School in Birmingham, AL. She married her husband, W.D. Jarrett, on March 16, 1946. They raised two sons. She was active in her church and volunteered in her community, serving as the president of the Valley Rescue Mission’s Ladies Auxiliary in Columbus many years ago. In the 1960s, she began working as a church secretary. In the 1970s and 1980s, she owned an arts and crafts business in Columbus. Mrs. Jarrett was a devout Christian who enjoyed reading and understanding the Bible. Many years ago, she visited the Holy Land and was baptized in the historic Jordan River. In recent years, she enjoyed spending time with her family and caring for her cat Frankie.
She is survived by her son Larry Jarrett of Meansville, daughter-in-law Birdie Jarrett of Columbus, sister-in-law Betty Middlebrooks of Columbus, 5 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Other than her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son William Devereaux Jarrett, Jr., daughter-in-law Tamra Jarrett, sister Anita Vermillion, sister Faye Tyre, and brother Marvin Parker.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary in Columbus. A graveside service at Parkhill Cemetery will be held Wednesday, July 13, at 11 a.m.
