
Graveside services will be held at Fort Benning’s Main Post Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 18, 2011. Those attending are asked to gather at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, at 10:15 a.m. in order to process to the gravesite.
Mr. Aure’s long life was marked by his love of country, community, and most of all, family. His distinguished military career included service in both World War Two and Korea where he flew reconnaissance. He was among the army’s first helicopter pilots and his skills were greatly admired by his fellow officers. Mr. Aure retired from the Army in 1966 as a Lieutenant Colonel and then pursued another career with Royal Crown Cola here in Columbus.
In his retirement, he and his beloved wife, Nancy enjoyed traveling and playing golf. In his years as a golfer, Jack had 12 holes in one. He and Nancy were charter members of Maple Ridge Golf Club.
Jack is survived by his daughter, Marianne Aure Burkhead, his beloved grandchildren, Dr. Anna Burkhead, Curtis and Patrick Cunningham, Heidi Benenson and Jay Marks, two great grandchildren, Finn Cunningham and Jenna Benenson, and his devoted care giver and friend, Bettye Gates.
Mr. Aure was predeceased by his wife, Nancy and daughters, Kathleen Aure and Kristine Cunningham.
Jack Aure held education in highest esteem.
