Gary was born in Newnan, Georgia on April 29, 1949 to the late Clyde James Henson and Lura Grace Cassell Henson. Gary served his country in the United States Marine Corps, serving during the Vietnam War. Gary was the owner/operator of his own Trucking company for many years. He was a great mechanic and could fix just about anything. Gary loved UGA Bulldog football, he also loved watching NASCAR racing, and old westerns. He was known to collect military memorabilia and Indian memorabilia as well. Gary’s most favorite past time was spending time with his family especially his grandkids. They were his universe.
Gary is survived by his children, Garrett Henson and Brittany (Nicholas) Gregory; his grandchildren: Rylee Morales, Rowyn Gregory, Gracie Gregory, and Watford Henson; his sister, Joy Mazur; and numerous nieces and nephews. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Lura and Clyde Henson; his son Justin Henson, and his brother, Ronald Cassell Henson.
Family will visit with friends on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd Columbus, Georgia 31907. A graveside funeral service will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 PM in Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia 31907.
