

Gene William Cain, age 79, a New Orleans, Louisiana native and long time Mobile, Alabama and recent Columbus, Georgia resident, passed away Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at a local Columbus hospital.
He retired from the Mobile County, Alabama Tax Assessor’s office and the City of Prichard, Alabama Municipal Complex.
Being a talented musician, he was able to successfully play piano and keyboards in a local band when younger; all by ear without ever learning to read music. This gift of music was shared with his children and their mother, the late Linda Jane Wilson. He also enjoyed karaoke as well as college and professional sports.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Dewitt T. Cain and O’Neta Cain, also by his sister, Chickie Rae Westcott.
He is survived by his beloved children, Zachary M. Sayer, Paula J. Brownlee, Jennifer M. Corby, Robert W. Cain and J. Janell Dabney, also by nieces, Joyce Monroe, Sandra Monroe, Diane Detwiler, Betty Jane Hill and nephew Davy Monroe, in addition to several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at Fairview Baptist Church, 2913 Reese Road, Columbus, GA 31907
