Funeral services will be held 11:00am, Thursday, July 13, 2017 in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, interment will follow in Parkhill Cemetery.
Mr. Jordan was born April 19, 1932 in Columbus, Georgia to the late George J. Jordan, Sr. and Sarah Ella
Jordan. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Joan Jordan and five
brothers and sisters. Graduate of Baker High School and Columbus Tech. Korean war veteran, Local
leading businessman, Owner of Jordan Television. Upon leaving the army in 1955 he joined his brother-
in-law Jack Reese at Apex TV Repair. In 1958 he purchased Apex and changed the name to Jordan
Television. He was a leading dealer for Zenith, RCA and Motorola before obtaining the dealership for
Curtis Mathes in 1976. The dealership grew to six locations becoming the fourth largest franchise in the
country. His sons joined him in the business and expanded into the rent-to-own market, eventually
growing to 15 locations in three states. In 1987 the rent-to-own company was recognized by INC
Magazine as one of the 500 fastest growing companies in the country, the INC 500. This was the first
company outside of the Atlanta Metro market to make the list. Mr. Jordan was a community leader
serving on the board of directors of the better business bureau and as an advisor to Columbus Tech,
served on various committees at Britt David Baptist Church and attended Evangel Temple and
Morningside Baptist Church. His generosity and mentorship was felt by many, including family and
employees.
Survivors include his sons, Jim Jordan, III his wife Barbara and Alan Jordan his wife Lisa, five grandchildren, Lee Jordan, Jamie Jordan, Maryanne Jordan, Neil Jordan and Emily Jordan Carpenter, two great grandchildren, Joely Jordan and Georgie Jordan. Also, he is survived by seven brothers and sisters, Barbara Jordan Reese, Sarah Jordan Worthington, Jack Jordan, Patricia Jordan Cloud, Cheryl Jordan Flowers, Phillip Jordan, and Regina Jordan Keller.
