

George Arthur Meehan, 83, of Columbus, passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at Midtown Medical Center. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 2:00pm in Parkhill Cemetery with Pastor Danny Courtney officiating. The family will receive friends at Striffler-Hamby Columbus from 12:00-1:30pm prior to the service beginning.
Mr. Meehan, son of the late Frank and Mae Meehan, was born September 26, 1933 in Elizabeth, New Jersey.
He was a man of integrity, honesty and generosity. Mr. Meehan was an Army Veteran and was proud to have been able to serve his country in time of need. After his faithful service, he was manager for various grocery stores including Big Star, Colonial, and Piggly Wiggly. Married for 60 years, he was a giving husband, father and grandfather. Mr. Meehan’s hobbies included watching Falcon Football, working in his yard, and writing stories both humorous and poignant.
He was a devoted member of Bethal Tabernacle, serving as a deacon and entertaining the children as Santa.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Louise Collins Meehan; brothers, Frank Meehan, James Meehan; sisters, Helenita Robinson, and Peggy Meehan.
Mr. Meehan is survived by his daughter, Juliann M. Allen (Dennis); grandson, Bryan Allen (Christi); great grandchildren, Ian Allen, Kate Allen; and nephew, James Kelley.
We will miss his smile, quick wit, and funny personal stories.
