Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, May 19, 2012 in the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA, 31907 with Minister David Spiece officiating. The family will receive friends Friday evening, May 18, 2012 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
Mr. Taverner was born September 28, 1940 in Wichita, KS, son of the late Joseph E. and Alta O. Sears Taverner. He was Vice-President of Southwest National Bank. Mr. Taverner was also a member of Westside Baptist Church in Wichita, KS. He loved gardening and traveling. One of his favorite places was the Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming.
Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, Betty Taverner; his daughter, Dana Roberts and her husband, Bruce; his son, Greg Taverner; two grandchildren, Derik Roberts and his wife, Kristin, and Ashley Ballew and her husband, Michael; two sisters, Jean Haywood, and Wanda Casey; four brothers, Edmond Taverner, Clarence Taverner, Don Taverner, and Clyde Taverner; numerous nieces and nephews.
