Gilbert Leon McKinstry Sr.

Gilbert Leon McKinstry, Sr., 74, passed away on October 22, 2012 at Columbus Hospice House. Funeral services will be held at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd., Columbus on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at 3:00 PM with Rev. Lamar Harper and Rev. Jeff Murphy officiating. The family will receive friends in the chapel, beginning at 2:00 PM.

Mr. McKinstry was born on June 18, 1938 to the late James Benjamin and Ethel Lee McKinstry in Aliceville, AL. He was a member of Rose Hill United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Ellon Weed McKinstry of Columbus; a son and daughter-in-law, Gil and Jennifer McKinstry of Columbus; two daughters and sons-in-law, Michelle and Wendell Brown of Columbus and Mindy and Joel Barber of Birmingham, AL; seven grandchildren, Daviss, Autra and Paxton McKinstry, Tiffany Brown and John Lewis, Lawson and Fischer Barber; two brothers, Tom (Donna) McKinstry and Jimmy (Kitty) McKinstry; and several nieces and nephews.
