Gladys was born to the late Lawrence Gurden Pritchard and Lucille Gladys Pritchard on January 15, 1930 in St. Louis, Missouri. After graduating high school in St. Louis, Gladys served in the United States Army Women’s Army Corps before her honorable discharge. After seeing the world as a military spouse, Gladys lived in Columbus with her husband Gerald "Jerry" W. Comer, who passed away in 2014, and worked as a Civil Service Administrator at Ft. Benning. As a faithful member of Wesley Heights United Methodist Church, she also served as a church secretary.
One of Gladys’s favorite things was going on cruises with family and friends, where she was known to surprise everyone with her youthful energy and adventuresome spirit. When at home, though, she was nearly always working on a crocheted afghan for someone she loved. She also enjoyed reading, tending to her garden, and baking her legendary pound cake. Gladys took care of everyone, and no one ever left her house hungry or empty-handed.
An upbeat and joyful person, Gladys was loved by many and was known as "GG" (which stood for Granny Gladys) by both family and friends. Another of her nicknames was "Confused Gran," which she even had on a license plate for many years. That bright sense of humor, along with her thoughtful generosity and heartfelt kindness, will be greatly missed by many. Gladys was a treasure to all who were fortunate enough to have her in their lives.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Gerald Comer, her daughter Linda Comer Smith, her grandson Jeremy Comer, her parents Lawrence and Lucille Pritchard, and sister Margie Brucker.
Gladys is survived by her son Larry Comer and daughter-in-law Becky Comer, her grandson Joel Comer, granddaughters Angelia Cates (Larry), Jessica Bolyard (Scott), Ashley Woodard (Mark), and son-in-law Terry Smith. She also leaves behind nine great-grandchildren.
