Gladys Joy Drummond was born July 23, 1927 in Wichita, Kansas, to Charles William and Myrtle Evelyn Laeger. At the distinguished age of 95, she left us on Sunday, November 6, 2022, to rest in the arms of Jesus her Savior and Lord.
Gladys met her soon to be husband, Warren Hansel Drummond on February 3, 1945 while he was still serving in the Navy during WWII. They were married in Wichita on Sunday, March 25, 1945. Gladys was always concerned that people know that her first born, June, was born almost 11 months later.
She was raised in the Salvation Army church but after her marriage became a faithful Baptist. Through the years she served with GAs, Acteens, WMU, and had been teaching a women’s Sunday School class until September, 2008 when she and Warren moved from Birmingham to Columbus, Georgia. She loved her Lord Jesus. She also believed very much in the power of prayer. Every night, until her fall Wednesday, November 2nd, she spent more than 30 minutes praying through her prayer list for every family member and many friends.
Gladys has lived at The Gardens at Calvary since November, 2015. She loved people and The Gardens provided her a wonderful bunch of residents and staff to love and pray for.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her children, June (Don) Wilhite, Norman (Connie) Drummond, and Santha (Ken) Dunn; her brother David (Anna) Laeger; her grandchildren DonnaJune (Joe) Waller, David (Amber) Wilhite, Rachel (Corey) Reynolds, Daniel (Beth) Drummond, Monica (Kevin) Sobol, and Lee (Jeane) Dunn; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services for Gladys will be held Friday, November 11, 2022 at 11:00 am at Calvary Baptist Church in Columbus, Ga., according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary Columbus. The family will have a private burial following the service. The family will receive friends on Friday from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at the church.
