Glen James Cosby, 87, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 in Fortson, Georgia. He was born on March 5, 1936, in Claiborne County, Harrogate, Tennessee. He is the son of the late, Wheeler and Maggie (Jones) Cosby.
Mr. Cosby was a devoted follower of Jesus as his Lord and Savior. He served as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher. At the time of his death he was a member of Day Spring Community Church. He served for just over 20 years in the United States Army, including time as a medic in the Vietnam War, laboratory work in Japan, three years in Germany, and several other locations in the USA and around the world. Mr. Cosby was a paraplegic for many years, but, because of his determination and strong faith, he was able to walk again with a cane. He enjoyed playing the banjo and the other stringed instruments at his church and with two veterans groups.
Surviving are his children, Susan Cosby (Frank) Gilbert and James (Paola) Cosby; his grandchildren, Joy (Josh) Slaughter, Nathaniel Spence, Collin Gilbert and Jana Gilbert; his great-grandchildren, Gavin Downs, Abijo Downs and Riley Downs; his siblings, Phyllis (Danny) Rosich and Roger Cosby. In addition to his parents, Mr. Cosby was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Cosby, and his daughter, Janet Spence.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at the Northside Worship Center (also known as Northside Chapel), 1901 Whittlesey Road, Columbus, Georgia, on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at 7:00 p.m.
