Glynn Steven Chesser was the eighth of twelve children born to Ruth and Richard Chesser on the outskirts of the Okefenokee Swamp in Folkston Georgia. Mr. Glynn graduated from Charlton Co High School and furthered his education at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. In 1959, he completed his studies in the field of forestry earning his bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia, GO DAWGS! It is important to note that he was the first member of his immediate family to graduate high school and the only one with a college degree. This speaks volumes about Mr. Glynn’s persistence and character.
Mr. Glynn served our country in several branches of the military: US Marine Corps, Air and Army National Guard, and Air Force Reserve. He was employed by Georgia Kraft/Mead Westvaco where he surveyed land for planting and harvesting timber until his retirement in 1999.
Other than devotion to his family, Mr. Glynn pursued running long distance as a passion. He was also known for his acts of service to his neighbors, church family at Morningside Baptist, and even strangers.
Mr. Glynn’s life story wouldn’t be complete without telling of his two great loves. While returning to UGA from a break, he met Ginger Ellen Malcom, who worked for her father, the owner of the station. The pair briefly dated but because of her tender age, their relationship did not become serious. However, five years later, they renewed their acquaintance after she mailed a Christmas card to him. Miss Ginger and Mr. Glynn began dating again in December, were engaged the following Valentine’s Day and married March 15, 1963. Not long into their marriage, through the influence of his young bride, Mr. Glynn met the greatest love of his life, Jesus Christ. With Jesus as head of the household, theirs was a beautiful and enduring love story.
While Mr. Glynn was a man small in physical stature, his faith and family values towered above most. His legacy of love includes his marriage of sixty-one years to his wife, Ginger; five children, Merrie Albrecht (Jimbo), Steve Chesser (Supriya), Holly Kelley (Randall), Lorrie Chesser, and Andrew Chesser (Brittany); seven grandchildren, Jon Weddington, Jimmy Albrecht (Kristen), Matthew Hima, James Chesser, Glynn Chesser, Olivia Hima, and Madelynn Chesser; and three great grandchildren, Carly Weddington, Ethan Weddington, and Peter Albrecht.
Mr. Glynn was preceded in death by his parents and ten of his brothers and sisters. He is survived by his sister Nell Seeney of Folkston and a host of in-laws, cousins, nephews, and nieces.
