
Graveside services for Mrs. Sims will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at the Main Post Cemetery, Fort Benning, GA., with Reverend Thad Smith officiating, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary 4071 Macon Road Columbus.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 from 5-7 p.m.
Gustava E. Sims daughter of the late John F. Thomas and Delia O. Davidson Thomas, was born January 11, 1922 in Taylor, Alabama. Other than her parents Mrs. Sims was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years (Ret)Lt. Colonel Orley J. Sims and a sister, Laura Scott . She was a charter member of Morningside Baptist Church. She was a devoted wife and mother. Whenever her husband was serving overseas, she made sure that her home and family came first. Her greatest joy in life was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include one daughter, Susan S. Benson and her husband Robert of Columbus; two sons, Dr. James Thomas Sims and his wife Constance of Newark, DE and Orley Jackson Sims, Jr. and his wife Christine of Watkinsville, GA; one sister, Louise Mauldin; seven grandchildren, Amy Brotherton, Ethan Sims, Kathryn Sims, Timothy Sims, Erin King, Katherine Roberts, and Robin Benson; four great-grandchildren, Zoe and Te’a Sims, Caroline and Jax King; other relatives and friends.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Morningside Assisted Living for all the care and comfort they gave to both of our parents. A special thanks to Mrs. Edith Strickland and Mrs. Maria Lora for the care they gave to our mother during her final illness.
