Gwendolyn Lachone Davis

She was united in Holy Matrimony to Leon Davis on October 31, 2003. She was a devoted wife and a loving mother to her children and grandchildren. She lived a life that exemplified Proverbs 31:28 “Her children arise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.”

At an early age she confessed Christ and joined St. James CME Church on Northstar Drive in Columbus, Georgia. She later joined Metropolitan Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Curtis Crocker, Jr. While at Metropolitan she thoroughly enjoyed the fellowship, served with the Sisters in Christ, and grew in her relationship with Christ.

Gwendolyn was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary American Legion Post 267 Columbus, Georgia.

She was a dedicated and faithful employee at L&S Food Services (Fort Benning, Georgia) for 10 years and held the position of Assistant Manager.

On December 25, 2016 Gwendolyn answered the call of her Heavenly Father and traded time for eternity. Preceding her in death were her grandparents, J. C. & Cindilla Jones; parents, Henry Lee & Willie Mae Walton; brother, Arthur Lee Tyner and Sister Lela Walton.

She leaves to cherish her memories a devoted husband and friend, Mr. Leon Davis; four sons, Tyrone Walton, Terrence Walton and Jay C. (Bonetia) Walton, all of Columbus, Georgia Leon Davis, Jr., Las Vegas Nevada; two daughters, LaQuasha (Cortese) Crowell of Columbus, Georgia; and Makisha (Jeff) Bogans of Las Vegas, Nevada; eight grandchildren, NaQuasha, Jordan, Michael, Nyla, Ariel, Cortese, Terra, Kayden; two sisters, Robine (Adrian) Walton-Oliver of Columbus, Georgia; Delphine (Dee) Greathouse of Fayetteville, Georgia; seven brothers, Henry Walton, Jr. of Columbus, Georgia, Vincent Walton of Columbus, Georgia; James Walton of Merryville, Indiana, Otis Walton of El Cajon, California, Arthur and Vincent Davis of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Reflections of a Wonderful Life lived will be held on Friday, December 30, 2016 at Striffler-Hamby’s Edgewood Hall from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM with family visiting with friends until 8:00 PM.

A Celebration of her wonderful life will be held on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at 1:00 PM, Metropolitan Baptist Church 1633 5th Ave. Columbus, Georgia 31901 with Dr. Dee Greathouse, Pastor Robert Parnell, Elder Adrian Oliver and Dr. Curtis Crocke, Jr. presiding over the services. Interment will follow to Green Acres Cemetery. The family will have repast at Metropolitan Baptist Church.
