Harry Lane Mitchell

November 30, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 5, 2014 in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon RdColumbus, GA 31907, with the family’s Pastor, Dr. Don Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Parkhill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Matthew Mitchell, Kevin Peterson, Kyle Peterson, and J. Alton Williams. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Thursday, December 4, 2014 in the St. Elmo room at Striffler- Hamby. A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 8, 2014 at 7:00 PM in the sanctuary of the Alpharetta First United Methodist Church in Alpharetta, GA. Harry was born September 22, 1946 in Moultrie, GA son of the late Joseph Henry Mitchell and the late Susan Belle Bradley. He was preceded in death by his step-father Hubert Bradley, and his sister, Jeannette Smith; his mother-in-law Helen Holton Bentley. He had a rewarding career with W.W. Grainger, retiring in 2007 after 37 years of service. He loved his Grainger family. Harry was a past member of Rose Hill Baptist Church, Columbus, GA and served as an elder at Lexington Presbyterian Church, Lexington, SC. He is currently a member of Alpharetta First United Methodist Church in Alpharetta, GA. Harry was loved by all; he was an avid Georgia sports fan and Braves Baseball Fan. His love for his family showed as he was involved with his children’s and grandchildren’s daily activities. He treasured his contacts with all of his friends. Survivors include his wife of 46 years Sue Bentley Mitchell, his daughter, Andee Mitchell Peterson and son-in-law Kevin Clarke Peterson of Cumming, GA; his son Matthew Brian Mitchell and daughter-in-law Kristen Mason Mitchell of Woodstock, GA. He had five beloved grandchildren: Abby Peterson (15), Kyle Peterson (12), Karlie Peterson (8), Sarah Mitchell (8), and Ashley Mitchell (6). He is survived by his sister, Geraldine Meadows and brother-inlaw Don Meadows of Winter Garden, FL, brother, Ernie

Mitchell of Lilburn, GA, brother, Robert Mitchell and sister-in-law, Ruth Mitchell of Winter Garden, FL, and brother Grady Mitchell and sister-in-law
