Harry Leroy Shaffer

Harry Leroy Shaffer, 81, of Columbus, Georgia, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Midtown Medical Center. A Memorial Service is scheduled for Monday, June 8, 2015, 10:00 AM at Ft. Benning Main Post Cemetery. The family will have a Celebration of Life Sunday afternoon from 3:00 PM-5:00 PM in the Mill Room of Striffler-Hamby.

Mr. Shaffer, son of the late Charles Shaffer and late Frances Maynard Shaffer, was born April 13, 1934 in Baltimore, Maryland. After high school, he joined the military and became a Combat Medic. He was awarded several medals and honors including the Silver Star and two Bronze Stars with Valor. Mr. Shaffer retired in 1981, enjoyed life and loved spending time with his family.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Joe Shaffer and Raymond Shaffer. Survivors include his children Maria Barnes of Hinesville, GA, David Shaffer (Laura) of Winfall, NC, Maggie Hill of Columbus, GA, Susan Shaffer of Tampa, FL, Harry Shaffer (Allison) of Rogers, AK and Lucas Shaffer (Whitney) of Columbus, GA; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; brother Chuck Shaffer of Virginia Beach, VA; sister-in-laws Laverne Shaffer and Linda Shaffer; numerous other relatives and friends.
