Helen Harriet Burdell

Helen was born to Mrs. Annie Penny Abernethy and Elbert Clinton Abernethy on July7, 1926 in Scottland County, NC. She married Eugene Burdell in 1940. As a young married couple, they were an Army family. They spent a year in Japan before settling in Columbus, GA to raise their family. They were married for 50 years before Gene's passing.

Known to everyone as Nana, she was a faithful servant of God and was a member of Wynnton Methodist Church for more than 70 years. A humble, gentle woman, she was also a fierce prayer warrior. She read the Bible almost every day of her life, literally wearing out several Bibles in her lifetime.

Left to remember Nana is her devoted son, Larry Burdell (Patricia); her grandchildren, Shawn, Jennifer, Mitzi, Alicia, Kristi, Kelley, Bob, and Sadie; her great-grandchildren, Paige, Talon, Tatum, Kaylee, Joah, Jayme, Megan, Emily, Zachary, Ainsley, Jack, Charlie, Sadie, Kate, and Pierce; her great-great grandchildren, Braelynn, Brighton, Brewer, Bayler, Jason and Sadie.

She was predeceased by her husband, Gene Burdell; her son, Bobby Burdell; her daughter, Carolyn Mickle; her grandson, Brian. Also predeceasing her in death were her parents, Annie and Elbert and all of her siblings, Frances, Alleen, Dorothy, and Jack.

Visitation will be at 10 am on Wednesday, June 10, at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, GA, followed by the funeral at 11 am.
