

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 28 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Columbus, with Dr. James C. Elder, Jr., officiating. A private interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus. The family will receive family and friends Sunday, June 27 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Striffler-Hamby.
Mr. Douglas was born December 8, 1947 in Augusta, Georgia, son of the late Henry T. Douglas, Sr. and Mary Ann Douglas. He lived in Columbus most of his life, and he was retired from McCarley Moving and Storage, Inc. / United Van Lines after 39 years, 23 of which he served as Owner and President. Mr. Douglas was an active member in the First Baptist Church choir and also served on the Deacon board. He was a member and sponsor for Alcoholics Anonymous for 33 years. He was a former member of the Home Builders Association and Columbus Rotary Club. He also was a Ducks Unlimited sponsor and member.
Mr. Douglas was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved the Georgia Bulldogs. He was a Sunday School teacher and youth sports coach. Above all, he was a family man who loved his church and a friend to all.
Survivors include his wife of fifty years, Gayle M. Douglas; a son and a daughter-in-law, Henry T. Douglas III “Trey” and Kim Douglas of Columbus; a daughter, Amy Douglas Monaco of Columbus; a daughter and son-in-law, Amanda Douglas Chapman and Scott Chapman of Columbus; two brothers, Carl Douglas and Philip Douglas of Augusta, Georgia; and seven grandchildren, Carley, Garrett and Parker Douglas, EmmaKate and Lillian Monaco, Sara, Wyatt and Leighton Chapman.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to the National Kidney Foundation or First Baptist Church of Columbus Georgia.
