Herman Manson Lane Jr.

Funeral services will be held at the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd., Columbus, GA, on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at 1:00 PM. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 PM until the time of service.

Herman Manson Lane, Jr. was born in LaGrange, GA on October 23, 1924 to the late Sallie G. Lane and Herman M. Lane, Sr. He was a graduate of Jordan High School and continued his education at Auburn University. Mr. Lane served his country during WWII as a Merchant Marine. He was married to the late Elizabeth M. Sibio Lane and had retired from Georgia Power as a superintendent after 43 years of service. Mr. Lane was also a Master Mason. Mr. Lane was preceded in death by his wife, parents, two brothers and a sister.

Survivors include two daughters, Julia Tharp (Robert) of Warner Robins, GA and Terri Thompson (Randall) of Mineral Bluff, GA; five grandchildren, Bob Tharp (Ashley) of Johns Creek, GA, Jason Thompson (Shannon) of Wilmington, NC, Melissa Binkley (Mike) of Ashland City, TN, Sarah Densmore (Jeremy) of Cumming, GA, and Angie Keen (Ryan) of Dawsonville, GA; and nine great- grandchildren.
