

Herman Junior McNeil, 88, of Columbus, GA passed away May 22, 2016 under the care of Gentiva Hospice in Columbus. He was born to his late parents Joseph and Annie McNeil May 28, 1927 in Columbus where he was a life-long resident. Mr. McNeil was a WWII retired Navy Veteran, and a retired Postman. He was a member of The Letter Carrier’s Union, The Guitar Pickers Club, and his beloved First Freewill Baptist Church.
A Graveside Service is planned for Thursday, May 26 at 11:00 am in Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Rd. Columbus, GA, with Pastor Willie Martin officiating, followed by visitation with the family in the Mill Room of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Rd.
Along with his parents, Mr. McNeil is preceded in death by two brothers, James Oscar and Auther J. McNeil; one sister, Laura Hammock; grandson, Todd Stansell; and his devoted wife of 50 years, Gladys McNeil. He is survived by; one daughter, Patricia (Johnny) Stansell of Columbus; three sons, David Allen McNeil of Columbus, Barry Eugene McNeil of Columbus and Mark Kevin (Pamala Phillips) McNeil of Valley, AL; grandchildren, Jason Stansell, Jared Stansell, Darcie Jackson, Rebekka McNeil, Christopher McNeil, Barre’ McNeil and Andrew Mark McNeil; great grandchildren, Pate, Cole, Skylar, Rylin, Ayden, Bailey, and Cason; nieces, nephews, other family members, and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations are given in Mr. McNeil’s memory to First Freewill Baptist Church, 952 54th St. Columbus, GA, 31904.
