Herschel Lee Saxon, age 73, of Phenix City, Alabama passed away on Friday, February 14, 2020. A visitation for family and friends for Herschel will be held Monday, February 17, 2020 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, GA 31907. A Celebration of Herschel's Life will occur Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Striffler-Hamby.
Herschel was born June 16, 1946 in Columbus, Georgia to his late parents Ethel Curenton Saxon and Early Woodrow Saxon. Herschel was a very hard working business man who was best remembered for his work with Bill Heard Chevrolet and most recently with Columbus Auto Auction. He was a very adventurous outdoorsman who loved to fish, golf, collect classic cars, watch NASCAR and Hot Rods, listening to Classic Country and Southern Gospel Music and watching the Georgia Dawgs. Herschel was very clean and organized and taught his children by example to have good work ethics and how to treat people right. He enjoyed telling the stories of his adventures to his grandchildren, playing and laughing with them. Herschel’s legacy is the family that he loved and leaves behind.
Herschel was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Martha Jane Saxon. He is survived by his daughters, Leigh Ann Edmonds (Keith) and Darlene Childers (Bill); brother, Benny Saxon (Jenny), and sister, Wanda Saxon Harbert; grandchildren, Jordan Gibson (John), Clay Edmonds, and Julia Wells (Steven); great-grandchildren, Beau Gibson, Trent Gibson, Janelle, Maddie, Paisley and Sawyer Wells; special friend, Theri Brooks other family members and many friends.
Serving as pallbearers are Roy Saxon, Ben Saxon, Mark Saxon, Henry Stevenson, Jeff Stevenson and Jason Stevenson.
