Hewitt "Hal" Lancaster was born in Birmingham, Alabama on December 10, 1956, to Hewitt Archlist Lancaster, Sr. and Marion Banks Schide. Hal graduated from Lakeland High School in Lakeland, Florida and attended Florida Southern College. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served for 16 years, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. Hal received numerous awards and recognition during his military career. After retiring from the military, he worked at TSYS for many years and then as an educational aide for Muscogee County School District. Hal loved cheering for Alabama and Florida State. He also enjoyed traveling to his family cabin in North Carolina, grilling, and yardwork. Spending time with his family was his favorite and he was surrounded by his loved ones until his death on September 15, 2024.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Hewitt Archlist Lancaster, Sr. and Marion Banks Schide and his stepfather, Eugene Schide.
He is survived by his spouse, Patty Lancaster; daughter, Kristi Lancaster; brother, Joe Lancaster (Nancy) of Bradenton, FL; brother-in-law, Mick Longstreet (Gloria) of Columbus, GA; sister-in-law, Linda Harris (Jonathan Dyson) of Philadelphia, PA; nephew, Jay Lancaster (Christie) of Archer, FL; niece's, Beth Provett (Christopher) of Williston, FL, Angela Funk (Dave) of Monumento, CO, Julie Shehane, and Allison Harris.
A Visitation for Family and Friends of Hal will be held on Monday, September 23, 2024, from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at Striffler Hamby Mortuary, St. Elmo, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia 31907. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at 2:00PM in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia 31907. Reception to follow after graveside service at Christ Community Church in the Milgen Room. 4078 Milgen Rd, Columbus, GA 31907
