He was preceded in death by his brothers Robert Dumas, Luther Dumas, Coleman Dumas, Cyrus Dumas Jr., and sister Lillie Mae Moore
Homer was a member of Hubbard High School class of 1969 Forsyth, GA and received his diploma from Nuremberg American High School while serving in the United States Army; received his Associates Degree from Troy State University; and continued his education by obtaining several vocational diplomas from Columbus Technical Institute
Homer found Christ at an early age and joined Wrights Grove Baptist Church where he was later ordained as a Deacon.
Homer joined the United States Army in 1971 , and shortly after met and married Carla (Huber) Dumas of Zirndorf, Germany on June 25th, 1974. To this union, Elvin Dumas and Carisa Dumas were born and joined the family along with their brother Meikel Huber.
Homer retired from the United States Army after 20 years of service at the rank of 1st Sgt. He then spent his time as an entrepreneur; running a logging business, managing his rental properties, supporting his son and daughter-in-law’s wedding venue.
Homer loved to fish, spend time with his family and help his great granddaughter Faith Dumas with her homework. Homer was a true friend to so many, always willing to support and lend a helping hand whenever needed. More than anything though, Homer loved God and his family.
Homer is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Carla (Huber) Dumas of Hamilton GA, his son Elvin Dumas (Davina) of Kennebunk, ME his daughter Carisa Dumas of Columbus, GA, stepson Meikle Huber (Sabina); his grandchildren Nadine Geiselhart, Diahsia Dumas, Diairyqua Dumas, Alex Dumas, Xylina Dumas, Destini Bennett and great grandchildren Faith Dumas, and Xyon Hernandez; sister Ruby (Allen) Hall of Chicago, IL.; aunt Ellene Davis of Forsyth, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, extended family, and friends.
A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Edgewood Hall, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA 31907 on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at 10:00AM. Rev. Dr. Antonio Proctor will be officiating services. Family will visit with friends one hour prior. Burial will follow with full military honors at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, 553 Highway 165, Fort Mitchell, AL 36856.
