Hugh “Sonny” F. Hale, Jr., 72, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on April 24, 2023 at Columbus Hospice House. He was born in Columbus, Georgia on June 5, 1950 to the late Hugh F. Hale, Sr. and Edith McClung Hale.
He was a 1968 graduate of Columbus High School. Sonny was a lifelong resident of Columbus, Georgia where he was the owner of Hale’s Grocery Store for many years. He had a strong work ethic, loved and played with a strong belief of living life to the fullest. Sonny had a passion for UGA football, NASCAR and going to the beach. His biggest love was for his children Anna and Hugh III and his grandchildren. Sonny’s hearty laugh and big smile will be greatly missed by all who knew and especially loved him.
He leaves his loving memory to be cherished by his son Hugh F. Hale III and his wife Erika; his grandsons John Ross and David Hale; his daughter Anna Windham and his grandsons William and Clayton Windham; three nieces, Suzanne, Edie and Teresa. Sonny was preceded in death by his parents Edith and Hugh F. Hale Sr.; his brother Gary Hale; and his sister Linda Hale Gill.
There are no services scheduled and Sonny’s family is requesting that if one wishes memorial donations can be made to Columbus Hospice at www.columbushospice.com in lieu of flowers.
