

Hugh Edward “Ed” Johnson, 81, passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, surrounded by loved ones at Columbus Hospice. Ed was born on March 28, 1944, in Birmingham, Alabama, to Hugh and Rebecca Johnson.
A salesman by trade, Ed worked in the communications field for many years, where he was known for his warm personality and ability to connect with anyone he met. He was a devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church and found great joy in being part of his Sunday School class and church congregation. He enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren, he also enjoyed racing cars and was an avid Ham radio enthusiast, a passion passed down from his father and shared with his son.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Faye Johnson; his son, Bradley Johnson; and his sisters, Lynn Johnson, Linda Johnson, and Cassie Johnson.
He is survived by his brother, Jim Johnson, and wife Bonnie; daughters, Amy Jordan (Marty), Gayla Greene (Dennis), and Sandy McNeal; son, Josh Hopkins (Melodi); grandchildren Abby Barbaree (John), Kathryn Munnings (Jeremy), Chad McNeal (Jenna), and Sam Hopkins; one great-granddaughter, Andi Barbaree; and many other extended family members and friends.
Friends are invited to a memorial service in his honor on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Calvary Baptist Church in Columbus, GA.
Ed will be remembered for his kindness, his humor, and the deep love he had for his family, friends, and church community. His legacy will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. As 2 Corinthians 5:8 reminds us, “Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.”
