S. Iron Smith, June 6, 1945 - May 18, 2010 COLUMBUS, GA— Iron "Cooter" Smith, 64, of Columbus, GA died Tuesday May 18, 2010 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday May 22, 2010 in the Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA 31907 with burial to follow in Parkhill Cemetery. Reverend Mike McBride will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Smith was born June 6, 1945 in Columbus, GA son of the late Autrey Gaston Smith and Ethel Inez Smith. He was a retired pressman at Ft. Benning, GA with 28 years of service and after retiring went to work for Brentwood Publishers with 11 years of service. He was a member of the Georgia National Guard and a member of North Side Chapel. Survivors include his son, Justin Iron Smith and his wife Tonya Barefield Smith of Columbus, his daughter, Jennifer Nicole Smith of Columbus, a grandchild, Trinity Nicole Smith, brothers, James. E. "Pete" Smith of Burlington, NC, Gene A. "Joe" Smith of Columbus, GA, Curtis R. "Curt" Smith of Efland, NC, Dwayne "Bimbo" Smith of Columbus, sisters, Viron Killingsworth of Visalia, CA, Niral "Mickey" Shaw of Roanoke Rapids, NC Winnifred "Winnie" Glover of Waverly Hall, GA , Marie Smith the mother of his children, several nieces and nephews.
