Isla was born in Columbus, GA. on November 24, 1927 to the late Judge and Mrs. Henry Hall Hunter. She was a lifelong resident of Columbus and a member of the First Baptist Church of Columbus for over 70 years. Isla earned a BA degree from Hollins College in Virginia. She was very active in numerous organizations in Columbus to include a sustaining member of the Columbus Junior League, member and past treasurer of the Columbus Chapter NSCDA (Colonial Dames). Isla served as treasurer of the Heritage Tours and Heritage Ball of the Historic Columbus Foundation for many years. She was a former member of the Ivy Garden Club where she served as a secretary and was a member of the "Wednesday Bridge Club". Isla was an avid supporter of the Columbus Symphony, Columbus State University and various other organization. She was also a member of the HCF Columbus Symphony and the Linwood Foundation. Isla was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Flournoy Hamburger, Jr. a sister, Elizabeth Hunter Hairston and brother-in-law, Judge Sam Hairston.
Survivors include her two daughters, Rebecca Hamburger Swift of Santa Rosa Beach, FL. and Kathryn Hamburger Warren (Davis Warren) of Dunwoody, GA. three granddaughters, Kathryn Rhodes Hines (Greg Hines), Elizabeth Ansley Buck and Lauren Buck Bryant (Justin Bryant), four great grandchildren, Alex Hines, Jackson Hines, Buck Bryant and Kylie Bryant.
Graveside funeral services will be held Friday, February 25, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in Linwood Cemetery with Dr. Jimmy Elder officiating according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, GA. The family will receive friends Friday morning from 9:30 until 10:30 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The First Baptist Church of Columbus or to Columbus Hospice.
