Jack Eatman passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 11th at Thrive at Green Island in Columbus, Georgia with his wife, Anne, by his side. He was surrounded by family and friends during his last days.
Jack was born on September 26, 1945 in Fort Worth, Texas to the late Jack B. Eatman, Sr and Margaret Perkins Eatman. He was an Air Force child and lived all over the world including England; Birmingham, Alabama; and Washington, DC. He moved to Denver, Colorado during his teenage years.
After graduating from Colorado State University in the late 1960s, he joined the United States Air Force, like his father before him. Jack graduated “Top Gun” in his pilot school class. Because of this achievement, he was the only one in his class to be able to choose what type of aircraft he would fly in the Vietnam War. He chose a reconnaissance plane. He was stationed all over the world during his Air Force career.
In 1984, he met his second wife, Anne Wade and they were married in April 1987. He retired shortly afterwards from the military and was hired to run and manage an eating disorder clinic (The Radar Institute) in Phenix City, Alabama for 11 years. This helped pave the way for his last and final career with the state of Georgia. He made a huge difference for many people through his job with the Troup Family Connection in the field of social welfare. He especially helped women, in many areas but particularly with teen pregnancy. He also earned a master’s degree in counseling from the University of Maryland. Jack enjoyed these years the most of his life. He was a very happy man who cherished his time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He is remembered fondly as a man who was full of love, kindness, and positive energy. He will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents (Jack B. Eatman, Sr and Margaret Eatman); his son Daniel Louis Eatman; and his stepson Thomas Wade Mobley. He is survived by his wife Anne Wade Eatman of Columbus, GA, his brother, Louis Eatman of Los Angeles, CA; his son, Mark Curtis Eatman of Bozeman, MT; and a stepson, Richard B. Mobley, Jr. (Amy) of Columbus, GA. Additionally, he leaves behind eight grandchildren: Morgan Eatman, Blake Eatman, Geiger Sturkie, Caroline Holloway (Drake), William Mobley, Walker Mobley, Richard B. Mobley, III (Trey); and Gardner Mobley.
