Jack Woodrow Hendrix, 98, of Columbus, Georgia, passed away on Monday, January 13, 2025. He was born on December 25, 1926 in Columbus, Georgia to the late Simeon Barto Hendrix and Eula Maybell Dudley Hendrix. He married the late Betty Riley Hendrix in Macon, Georgia in 1949 and together they raised three children. Jack honored and adored Betty for 67 wonderful years of marriage and missed her every day after.
Jack honored his country by serving in the United States Army during WWII. He was a graduate of Mercer University in Macon, Georgia and Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama. Jack became an Elementary School Principal for Muscogee County School District. He was generous with his time and always supported the community he lived in.
Jack enjoyed traveling, especially to the North Georgia Mountains. Spending time with and teasing his children and grandchildren always made him happy, almost as much so as telling corny jokes to his old buddies. He was a talented griller and loved smoking meats to be enjoyed with fellowship and a hearty serving of his famous barbeque sauce. Jack lived life the best way possible; he worked hard, expected the best of others--especially his kids--and made people smile.
He thought the most important things in life were his family, friends, and church. Jack shared his love for the Lord through Britt David Baptist Church as it was one of the things he loved the most. He is remembered by his loved ones as a good Christian, a good husband and father, and an excellent educator. He taught those around him to treat everyone fairly and to be kind, that doing good work was essential to good life, and that loving God was foundational to all else.
Jack is survived by his three children—David (Debbie) Hendrix, Dennis (Carol) Hendrix, and Darlene (Steve) Capista, six grandchildren—Heather, Jenni, Miles (Anna) Hendrix, Barclay (Will) Vallotton, Paul (Kaitlyn) Capista, and Laura Capista, and his six great-grandchildren—Emmie, Lawson, and Dottie Hendrix, Hugh and Sutton Vallotton, and Charlotte Capista—with one more great-granddaughter Capista expected in February.
