He was born on March 1, 1933, to Mary and Jack Passailaigue in Columbus, Georgia. Jack’s education began at Wynnton School and continued at Sewanee Military Academy, Columbus High School, and
Auburn University. He served in the United States Marine Corps and was a lifelong member of Trinity Episcopal Church. For many years, Jack worked alongside his father, owning and operating P&W Electric Supply until his retirement.
Jack was married to Harriett Springer Passailaigue of Atlanta until her passing in 1992. Later, he married Patricia Long, and they shared a loving marriage until his death. Affectionately known as Daddy, Grandaddy, D-Dat, and Jackie, Jack was a man of strong opinion and tradition. His passions included tennis, Auburn University sports—particularly basketball and March Madness—and spending time on his beloved farm in Harris County, which he named Pass Times. Jack had a larger-than-life personality, never hesitating to speak his mind, and his stories and vibrant spirit left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Despite all his many accomplishments in life, Jack often said that his greatest source of pride was his family, and his love for them was boundless.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia; his 4 daughters, Martha Passailaigue Miller (Gary), Laura Passailaigue Porter, Mary “J” Passailaigue Mize (Carter), and Dee Dee Passailaigue Tebeau (Tom); his stepdaughters, Mary Lynne Smisson Cumiskey (Chuck) and Patty Smisson Simkins (Mark); as well as his 9 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and 7 step-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, and the mother of his girls, Harriett Springer Passailaigue, as well as his parents, Mary and Jack Passailaigue.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all of Jack’s dedicated caregivers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Trinity Episcopal Church or the Clara Tebeau Light in the Dark Foundation at the Community Foundation of Chattahoochee Valley, which was founded by his granddaughter to support mental health services for local youth.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, March 19, at 2:00 pm at Trinity Episcopal Church in Columbus, Georgia. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
