

Jacob Lewis Kaplan, 84, of Phenix City, Alabama, passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2025. A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Jacob will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 11:00 AM accompanied by military honors.
Jacob was born on December 28, 1940, to Blanche and Sam Kaplan in Chicago, Illinois. He served his country in the United States Army where he began working for the Fort Benning School System after separation from the military. An avid dirt bike rider, he was a member of the Broken Spokes Motorcycle Club and Valley Motorcycle Touring Association. He enjoyed riding with his wife, Elizabeth, traveling to Maine and Niagara Falls on motorcycles as well as many, many trips to the mountains. In his free time, he loved sitting back and watching TV shows, especially “Monk” and “Walker Texas Ranger”.
He is preceded in death by his son, Danny Kaplan, his stepson, Randy Garner and his parents, Sam and Blanche Kaplan.
Survivors include his loving wife, Elizabeth Joan Kaplan; daughter, Carol Ann Kaplan-Reneau (David); stepson, Billy C. Garner (Karie); stepdaughter in law, Emily Garner; grandchildren, Morgan Kaplan, Luke Garner, Natalie Garner, Abigail Garner, and Jonathan Garner; sister Phyllis Baren of Chicago; as well as many nieces, nephews, and relatives.
