SFC (Ret.) Jake R. Lowe, age 71, of LaGrange, Georgia, passed away Saturday, November 24, 2018. Funeral Services with Full Military Honors will be held in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary on Friday, November 30, 2018 at 11am, burial to follow at Main Post Cemetery on Fort Benning, Georgia. A Visitation for Family and Friends will be held on Thursday, November 29, 2018 in the Wildwood Room of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary from 3:00 – 5:00 PM.
Mr. Lowe was born the son of Elzeck Lowe Sr. and Mary Phillips Lowe in Clinchmore, Tennessee on May 21, 1947. He spent 23 years serving in the United States Army, serving in the Vietnam War, retiring as a Sergeant First Class. After his military career, he worked as a Civil Service Engineer on Fort Benning until he retired for a second time. After retirement he enjoyed baseball cards, going to the Cypress Saloon to shoot pool and spending time with his family and friends. He was a loving husband, great father, good friend and a loyal soldier.
He enjoyed many things including sports, especially the Atlanta Falcons, golf, shooting pool, competitions, collecting baseball cards and selling them on EBay, fishing, corn hole and horseshoes, poker, casinos and Old Western films. Jake always enjoyed a good laugh, whether it be with friends, a TV show or standup comedians. As a devoted father, he taught his children many things, including morals and discipline.
Mr. Lowe was preceded in death by his mother and father; his sister, Bernice Honeycutt; brother, Kenneth Lowe and late wife, Teresa Lou Vanover.
His survivors include his three children, Tammy Cherry, Jennifer Troyer and Penny Wissinger and son in law, Troy Wissinger; three grandsons, Justin Lowe, Brandon Micken and Alexander Farringer; three sisters, Phyllis, Vickie and Maggie; three brothers, Donny, Elzeck Jr. and Larry; significant other, Sara Gillam and her daughter, Rita Fogle, whom he considered his daughter. Mr. Lowe also leaves other relatives and many friends to cherish his loving memory.
