A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, April 13th, 2022 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm,
with the service following at 2:00 pm in the Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus
GA. Interment to follow in Parkhill Cemetery.
James (Jimmy) Avera was born on October 21st, 1946 in Eastman GA, the son of Sirman
Wellington (Red) Avera and Janet Avera. James lived in Columbus GA most of his life. He
graduated from Columbus High School in 1965. He enjoyed a long career in sales that afforded
him the opportunity to travel the country. Jimmy loved Auburn football and enjoyed going to
games with his friends and family. He also enjoyed fishing and golfing. Jimmy had the gift of
being communicative and never met a stranger.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents Sirman Wellington (Red) and Janet Avera.
Jimmy is survived by his sister, Marianne (Jim) Ethridge of Fortson GA,
his only daughter Ashlee (Jason) Tate of Midland, GA, his only grandson Matthew Tate,
his niece Leanne (Bubba) of Duluth GA, and his nephew Jimmy Ethridge of Conyers GA,
and numerous other family members and friends.
