James Barnes, 94, of Columbus, Georgia, died peacefully in his home and is with his loving Lord and Savior. Mr. Barnes family will welcome friends and loved ones for visitation on Thursday, May 17, 2018, in Striffler-Hamby Mortuary’s Edgewood Hall starting at 10 AM with Funeral Services following at 11 AM.
James W. Barnes was born September 30, 1923, in Alford, Florida, to the late Stallie Brock and James Monroe Barnes. James grew into a young man whose calling was to serve his great nation. In doing so, he would serve in WWII with the U.S. Army with General Patton’s 3rd Army in Europe. At 23, he married the love of his life, Eunice Mitchell, on January 24, 1946. The two would grow their family and become devoted members of Trinity Temple Assembly of God. James would retire from Fieldcrest Mill in 1987 following 37 years of hard work and dedication, and when he wasn’t at work, he was relaxing and fishing. As a family, James taught his children that family is always there for one another. So, when things were tough, he was lovingly and faithfully cared for during his illness by his daughter, Brenda.
The Barnes family would like to express their extreme gratitude for the loving care of the Columbus Hospice staff during their time of need.
James is preceded in death by: his loving wife, Eunice Barnes; a daughter, Joyce Ann Reynolds; and a son, Bobby Barnes.
He is survived by: a daughter, Brenda Barnes Reynolds; a son, Ronnie (Susan) Barnes; grandchildren, Michael (Beth) Reynolds, Rick (Stephanie) Reynolds, Manley (Carolina) Barnes, Brandon (Christy) Barnes, Lisa (Kyle) Sullivan; and leaves behind nine great-grandchildren who will forever honor his memory.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks all those who would like to please make donations in James’s honor to Trinity Temple or Columbus Hospice.
