James Ray Grantham

Graveside services with military honors are scheduled at Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Road, Columbus on Friday, August 13, 2010, 11 a.m. with Reverend Skip Speed officiating, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, August 12, 2010 from 5-7 p.m.

Mr. Grantham, son of the late Rex Grantham and Verneil Hall Grantham, was born October 23, 1930 in Ariton, AL. He attended Philadelphia Baptist Church and was a Mason. Mr. Grantham was a U.S. Army veteran, and served his country honorably during World War II. He was retired from the Fort Benning Fire Department where he worked faithfully for over 31 years. Mr. Grantham is survived by his wife of over 40 years, Katarina Grantham of Salem, AL; two daughters, Peggy Barnes of Raleigh, NC, and Glenda Grantham of Lee County, AL; three sons, Danny Grantham and his wife Judi of Columbus, J.C. Smith and his wife Ginger of Gainesville, GA, and Robert Smith and his wife Tiffany, also of Gainesville, GA; eleven grandchildren including a very special grandson, Jeffery Lee Smith of Phenix City, AL; nine great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
