

SFC (Ret) James Medley JR, age 90, resident of Columbus, died on Sunday, February 5, 2017 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Graveside services with military honors are scheduled at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, 553 Hwy 165, Fort Mitchell, Alabama on Friday, February 17, 2017, 11 a.m., with the family receiving friends prior to the service on Friday, February 17, 2017 from 9-10 a.m. at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus.
Mr. Medley was born July 27, 1926 in Leipsic, Ohio. He was retired from the U.S. Army where he served his country honorably during World War II and the Korean Conflict. During his distinguished military career, he received numerous medals and ribbons to include the World War II Victory Ribbon; Korean Service Medal (w/ 3 Bronze Service Stars); UN Service Medal; European African Ribbon; and Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon.
After his military career, he worked faithfully for over 13 years at the Columbus Library where he was responsible for the Book Mobile.
Mr. Medley was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Elfreda Mae Medley. Survivors include their children and spouses, Vicky and Ron Caponiti, Billy and Laura Medley, Jimmy Medley, and Patty and Bjorn Koxvold; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
