
Alpharetta, GA- MSG (US Army Ret.) James Wilson Spivey, 96, of Alpharetta, GA, formally of Columbus, GA, passed away May 14, 2015 in Alpharetta. He was born February 18, 1919 in Canoe, AL, to his late parents Thomas and Emily Jernigan Spivey, where he lived until joining the Army in 1937 and moving to Ft. Benning, GA. James served in WW II along with his three brothers, Sam, Roy, and Ray. He was a tank commander during the invasion of North Africa and continued his Army career being stationed in Tokyo, Japan, Washington, DC where he completed a course in radio and television, then back to Columbus/ Ft. Benning, GA. Master Sergeant Spivey retired in 1957, and graduated from Columbus School of Art in 1958. He then began his Civil Service career as the Electronic and Communication shop foreman at Ft. Benning. After retiring from Civil Service in 1973, James spent most of his retired life in Columbus with his wife Rose. After Rose’s passing in 2008, he moved to Atlanta and Alpharetta, GA. Graveside services will be Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Rd. Columbus, GA, followed by a reception in the Mill Room of Striffler-Hamby. Reverend Dan Roby will officiate. Along with his parents, James is preceded in death by loving wife of 68 years, Rose Lowe Spivey of Watkinsville, GA; children Sandra Fulmer and Sam Spivey; brothers, Roy and Ray Spivey; and his sisters, Margie Hassell and Francis Sabol. He is survived by his brother, Sam Spivey, daughter in-law Meg Spivey, four grandsons; Geoff (Cindy) Muehlberger, Justin (Merry) Spivey, Matthew (Suzie) Spivey, and David (Farrah) Spivey; ten great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and other family members.
